The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting after three Colorado Springs police officers exchanged gunfire with a fleeing suspect Wednesday night.
No officers were hit and it is unknown if the male suspect was injured, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Around 11:40 p.m., officers arrived at the 4200 block of Mark Dabling Boulevard at Pikeview Reservoir on reports of a man firing his weapon, the sheriff’s office said. Three officers were attempting to contact the suspect when he opened fire. The officers returned fire, shooting at least one round each, as the suspect fled the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
The incidents marks the 40th officer-involved shooting in Colorado this year, and the fourth by Colorado Springs police. In all, 14 people have been killed and another 27 injured by police across the state.
