The incendiary ad released by President Trump showing a laughing illegal immigrant convicted of killing two cops falsely held the Democrats solely responsible for his presence in the US, according to a report.
In the waning days before the midterm elections, Trump tweeted the 53-second ad that features Luis Bracamontes hurling profanities while on trial in Sacramento, Calif.
“They’re dead. I don’t regret that,” the sneering Bracamontes says in the courtroom as “Democrats let him stay” flashes on the screen. “I will break out soon and kill more.”
“Who else would Democrats let in?” is superimposed over images of Bracamontes, who is now on death row at San Quentin for the 2014 slayings of Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis Jr.
Bracamontes, who grew up in Sinaloa, Mexico, entered the US illegally in 1993 at age 16 and Democrat Bill Clinton was president, according to the Sacramento Bee.
He was first arrested in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1996 and sentenced to four months in jail for marijuana possession.
After serving his time under then-Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s tent-city jail, he was handed over to the feds and deported on June 3, 1997, during Clinton’s second term.
But he was collared again on drug charges the following year in Phoenix, then was released “for reasons unknown” by Arpaio, a Republican, according to the Bee.
And on May 4, 2001, he was arrested on marijuana charges in Arizona’s Maricopa County and deported three days later – when Republican George W. Bush was president.
Bush also was commander in chief when Bracamontes slipped back into the US a short time later and when he got married on Feb. 28, 2002, the paper reported.
“It is outrageous what the Democrats are doing to our Country. Vote Republican now,” appears at the top of the ad Trump tweeted Wednesday.
Critics blasted the president for releasing the spot and compared it to the blatantly racist “Willie Horton ad” that George H.W. Bush’s campaign used in 1988 against Democratic candidate and Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis.
Horton, who was African-American, raped a woman after he was released on a weekend furlough from a Massachusetts prison where he was serving a life sentence in 1987.
Dukakis supported the furlough program.
