Cops hunt gunman after boy, 2, shot with metal pellet as mum lifted him out of pushchair

The lad's horrified mum was wheeling him through Stockport when she heard two popping sounds – just seconds before he started to scream in agony.

She rushed him to hospital after noticing that his right hand was covered in blood.

After arriving at the hospital, she found a small metal pellet in the bottom of the pushchair.

She had previously assumed he had trapped his hand in the pushchair.

Cops believe the boy was shot with an air rifle – and are appealing for witnesses.

PC Matthew Beaden from GMP’s Stockport Division said: “We are treating this incident extremely seriously and are following several lines of enquiry.

“We believe that someone in the local community knows who fired these shots, or has information that can lead us to the offender.”

The incident took place on Broadstone Hall Road South, at the junction of St Mary’s Drive, in Reddish, Stockport.
