Heartwarming footage of an old stray dog showing his love for his new owners after getting adopted has gone viral online.
The adorable pooch had been found wandering the streets of a small town in the US before being rescued by an animal shelter.
A kind-hearted couple then decided to take him in – and the new family instantly hit it off.
In footage shared to Reddit by bassDAD, one of the new dog owners gives the pooch some head scratches.
When they stop, the pooch looks up at him and paws at his hand as if to ask for more scratches.
His owner duly obliges and the dog rests on the arm rest as he is stroked.
The video has already received a whopping 125,000 upvotes since being posted yesterday (November 17).
“Love seeing older dogs get adopted and get some love, he’s a handsome lil dude,” one wrote.
Another said: “The look in his eyes… so much love instantly given.”
A third added: “He’s so handsome, and there’s so much trust in those eyes. Spoil him.”
In the comments section, the uploader offered more insight into the background of the rescue dog.
“He was a stray in our small town (of about 12,000),” they said. “He’s really well behaved though. He’s a little shy but warms up to you pretty quick.”
bassDAD added the pooch was fitted with a microchip but when the animal shelter called the number on it, no one answered or called back.
The tragic backstory clearly struck a cord with the uploader, who added: “How would you not call the shelter if you lost your dog and wanted him back?”
They continued: "It’s so rewarding!! This is the first time I’ve adopted a dog. It’s nice because he’s already potty trained and I don’t have to worry about him going crazy when I leave the room.”
It comes after amazing footage surfaced of another story dog sitting beside a road for 40 seconds waiting for the green light to flash at a crossing.
