Cute name Meghan Markle can call the Queen – but only when the time is right

As befits a monarch, style icon and great-grandmother Her Maj goes by many names.

There are her official names, which are Elizabeth Alexandra Mary.

Then there are the unofficial ones, the names her family use.

For example, if you’re the Duke of Edinburgh, then you might call her "Sausage". Or if you’re Prince William, you may instead opt for "Gary" .

There’s also ‘Lilibet’, Her Maj’s sweet childhood nickname which only a chosen few are permitted to use.

So what’s a grandaughter-in-law to call one of the most famous women in the world?

Well, there is a term she can use – and it’s adorable.

BUT – and it’s big but – Meghan will have to be well and truly in the royal fold to use it.

Editor of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward revealed to Grazia that Meghan may refer to the Queen as "Mama" – once the Duchess of Sussex has settled into royal life and all its bizarre protocol.

Kate Middleton spotted running across field to hug and kiss polo player during family day out – but it’s not Wills .

However, this is a privilege which Meghan will only have when she "gets to know her as Diana did."

For the time being, formality is still the key, and Ingrid adds: "When Meghan greets the Queen… she will address her as Your Majesty and curtsy."

The next step up is using the term "Ma’am" which will be "thrown in the conversation as many times as possible."

Only then can Meghan start to refer to her grandmother-in-law by the pet-name, "Mama".
