Dramatic moment shopkeepers use a BASEBALL bat to fight back at hammer-wielding thieves who raided phone store

  • The thieves targeted a phone shop in Foleshill, Coventry on Friday, November 23
  • But they were not expecting shopkeepers to retaliate with weapons of their own
  • West Midlands Police is now appealing for information following the phone theft

This is the dramatic moment two shopkeepers use baseball bats to fight off a pair of hammer-wielding thieves, chasing them into their getaway car.

Staff at a phone shop in Foleshill, Coventry reacted quickly when two masked men stormed the shop smashing a glass cabinet and taking a phone.   

CCTV footage shows a vehicle pulling up outside the store on Friday last week, before two masked men get out and approach the shopkeepers.

But the shopkeeper quickly returns with a baseball bat (pictured) and chases the two thieves away from the cabinet

One of the staff members, who was serving a customer at the time, watches on as the thief smashes a glass cabinet.

But just seconds later, he disappears from view before re-emerging with a baseball bat ready to chase away the culprits.

Both quickly exit the store as the shopkeeper and another man, also with a baseball bat, chase him into their getaway car.

One of the shopkeepers takes one final swing at the car, as it speeds off down the road. 

Police are investigating the incident, which took place on Friday, November 23, and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

Not content with simply having them out of his store, he shopkeepers chase the thieves outside and into their getaway car

The shopkeepers return to assess the damage incurred during the theft. West Midlands Police has said it believes one mobile phone was stolen

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: ‘Police are investigating a robbery at a phone shop on Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry, just after 2pm on Friday, November 23.

‘It is believed two men entered the store and smashed a counter with a hammer, before stealing a phone and leaving in a car.’
