Eastenders actor Shane Richie is taking legal action against travel firm Thomas Cook after a family break turned into his ‘worst nightmare.’

The star described his two week trip to Mexico’s five star Moon Palace Resort as the ‘holiday from hell’ and is now suing the travel firm, it has been reported.

Mr Richie, 54, claimed ‘loads of things happened’ including loud drum and bass music blaring out around the pool at 10.30am.

But a source close to Thomas Cook said: ‘Shane complained about holidaymakers taking pictures of him, having to get up at 5.30am to put towels on sunbeds, loud music by the pool and queuing to get eggs in the morning.’

The father of five, who plays Alfie Moon in the BBC soap, told The Sun: ‘It was the holiday from hell.

‘I was recommended the five star resort. It cost thousands.

‘It was supposed to be a holiday of a lifetime. I was taking my in-laws for 17 nights.

‘It was my worst nightmare. It was ‘f*****g horrendous. I got spanked by them.’

He added: At just 10.30am in the morning we were all sat by the luxury pool and there was a DJ on with drum and bass.

It is claimed he also complained about having to get up at 5.30am to put towels on sun loungers at the hotel (pictured)

Thomas Cook said they ‘did everything we could to help in resort, including complimentary upgrades and an offer to move to the premium hotel next door’

‘They didn’t mention that in the programme when we were booking it. Loads of things happened.’

Mr Richie, who is married to Christie Goddard and the couple have three children together, made a shock return to Eastenders last week for two episodes, but has confirmed he may be back in the future.

Thomas Cook said in a statement that staff had made efforts to make his stay more comfortable.

A spokesman said: ‘We always want our customers to enjoy their holidays so we’re disappointed Mr Richie didn’t like the hotel he asked us to book for him.

‘Given the circumstances we can’t justify a full refund so sadly this has become a legal issue.’
