A heroin addict who shoplifted in Specsavers was nailed when staff recognised him as he booked an eye test.
Dawid Dytlow, 32, was seen twice on CCTV swiping designer frames totalling £274 to fund his habit.
Staff at the chain’s store in Huddersfield, West Yorks – slogan “Should’ve gone to Specsavers” – realised the Polish national was the thief and also a regular customer when he tried to make an appointment, and called police.
Prosecutor Andy Wills told Kirklees magistrates: “It was not well thought out because the defendant then made an appointment for an eye test and gave contact details.”
Dytlow, of Huddersfield, admitted shoplifting and got a year’s conditional discharge.
He must also pay Specsavers £274.
