Huge fire tears through club in town centre – people told to ‘avoid area’

A powerful fire is ripping through a club in a town centre, with emergency services now at the scene.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze at a commercial premises in Week Street, Maidstone.

Crews were called just after 2.30am in the early hours of this morning, July 14, with 15 fire engines dispatched.

The street has been cordoned off along with the surrounding area, Kent Live reports.

Kent Fire and Rescue said in a statement: "A height vehicle and the technical rescue team are also in attendance.

"No casualties have been reported.

"KFRS' volunteer response team are on-hand to provide support and welfare to those affected.

"People who live and work in the area are still advised to keep their windows and doors closed, due to large amounts of smoke coming from the fire."
