CCTV shows the moment a man hangs a dead rabbit's body on a person's gate in the middle of the night.
In the clip, filmed in Stonnall, Staffordshire, a man with short hair wearing a t-shirt is skulking around in the dark next to the fence.
The man hoists a dead rabbit over the gate which appears to have wire around its neck.
He then ties the wire to the gate, leaving the corpse of the animal hanging for the homeowner to find.
The horrid potential crime was filmed by a Ring.com camera and is believed to have happened Monday, August 2 at around 10.25 pm but, so far, no culprit has been caught, BirminghamLive reports.
Staffordshire Police has issued an appeal for help in tracking down the person in the video.
DC Josh Lee, of CID South, said: "This event, which is part of a wider course of action, is utterly abhorrent.
"We are unsure what motivates someone to undertake such actions and are keen to get the public’s help to identify him."
Police have been unable to identify the man despite a previous appeal.
DC Lee added: "Someone knows him, perhaps a neighbour, friend, or relative.
"Thankfully this sort of behaviour is extremely rare but it is concerning that someone would undertake such activity."
An investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information or CCTV/dashcam footage should message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 738 of 2 August, call 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
This comes after a similar sick incident in Nuneaton, 22 miles away in the neighbouring county of Warwickshire.
Yobs threw dead rabbits at homes on Halloween last year, leaving residents very distressed.
Laughing, the thugs pull over in a car and slam the animals' corpses at a property before driving away.
