An Ibiza addict who launched an attempt to raise money for drinks despite having already spent £3,000 on the trip has raised £170 – but insists he will give most of it to charity.

Dave Nightingale, 50, set a goal of raising £25 to buy drinks at Wayne Lineker's Ocean Beach bar as a "joke".

He had already spent £3,000 on the trip after asking the public to "spare a few cents" on the GoFundMe page.

Dave insists he will give everything over £25 to Caritas, a poverty charity on the island.

Nine generous donors had come forward, including Victoria Reid from Cypress, Texas, US, who has thrown in £100 on her own.

The cheeky reveller had fibbed that on his previous visit to the swanky bar in September, their hefty prices meant he "had to order ice and wait for it to melt", when in fact he'd bought the same package.

Dave boasted he's already spent £3,000 on his and his 45-year-old wife Lisa Nightingale's five-day getaway with two pals and that he plans to take £1,500 spending money.

However the party-goer backs the venue's high prices as he says it "keeps the teenagers out".

Next month’s trip will be the big-spending couple's second visit to Ibiza in two months, keeping up their tradition of two holidays to the dance-crazy resort per year for the past five years.

The sharp-thinking bathroom fitter shared his GoFundMe page in an Ibiza-lovers group on Thursday (August 13) and the donations have already begun trickling in.

Dave, from Warrington, Cheshire, said: "People are always complaining about how expensive it all is, so I thought I'd set up a GoFundMe and see if someone would pay for my drinks.

"If I end up raising enough I'd get a bottle of Ciroc vodka and they're around €250, but I'd love to raise a few grand to pay for the trip.

"All that [stuff in my GoFundMe appeal] about drinking from the pool, that's totally made up. I wasn't that poor.

"The owner of the group reviews everything that goes in before it gets published, so I'm surprised she put it on, to be honest."

This will be the couple's third time visiting Ocean Beach for the day after opting to splash the cash on a bed as well as the €25 admission tickets on his second visiting last year.

He says the bed, which can fit up to eight people, will cost €720 (£655) and claims it includes a bottle of gin, a bottle of rum, two bottles of cava, two jugs of sangria, a bottle of prosecco and some sushi.

Ocean Beach's eye-watering price list touts their cheapest bottle of rum at €200 (£180), their cheapest bottle of gin at €250 (£225), and their cheapest jug of Sangria at €48 (£43).

Dave, who lives with business support manager Lisa and their two kids 25-year-old Jamie and 16-year-old Alex, believes it's money well spent.

Dave said: "I think it's worth the amount of money you pay in those big places because there's nothing else like it, and plus the prices keep all the teenagers out.

"And it depends where you're going, there's places you go and it's cheaper, but the better the place, the more expensive the drinks. You're paying for the place really.

"You've got to have some release once or twice a year, and we don't mind spending that much at Ocean Beach as a one-off.”

Dave's GoFundMe page previously: "Hi guys. Off to Ibiza in September and would love to be able to buy a drink in Ocean Beach instead of sitting empty-handed on my bed all day.

"Last time I went, I had to order ice and wait for it to melt for a drink as I was warned by security for drinking the pool water.

"C'mon, you all must have a couple of cents left over. Don't be shy. Much appreciated."

It now reads: "Well, due to the amount of 'people' who have taken this little private joke seriously, now it has gone over my initial huge ask of £25 I will be donating the funds to a charity that also operates in Ibiza."
