Jealous businessman ‘killed Brazilian footballer Daniel Correa Freitas, over PRANK pic of him in bed with his wife after spotting images on social media'

Sao Paulo star Daniel Correa Freitas was found dead in a bush on October 27 in the city of Sao Jose dos Pinhais in Brazil’s southern state of Parana with his throat slit and his genitals cut off.

Businessman Edson Brittes Junior, 38, was arrested three days later and confessed to killing the 24-year-old footballer in a “moment of madness” after he caught him trying to rape his wife Cristiana.

Daniel, who was on loan to Sao Bento, had been invited to the 18th birthday party of the couple’s daughter Allana which began in a nightclub and continued the following morning at the family home.

Pictures emerged showing the footballer grinning while he lay in bed with Allana’s mother – fast asleep in the same dress she wore to the party.

Police say they believe Daniel was beaten to death in the family home before his body was taken away in the boot of a car and dumped in the bush.

Brazilian news outlet UOL reported police chief Amadeu Trevisan as saying the pictures clearly show Cristiana Brittes asleep at the time.

He said it is likely Daniel “just lay next to the bed and took the picture” and posted the pics to a WhatsApp group in an “immature” stunt.

Three new suspects have been arrested, two of whom David Willian Vollero da Silva, 18, and 19-year-old Igor King are friends of Allana Brittes, UOL also reported.

Their lawyer Robson Domacoski said they heard a shout coming from Cristiana's room and heard from guests at the party Daniel had tried to rape Cristiana.

Along with Brittes they put the footballer in the boot of a car but the “idea was not to kill Daniel but to leave him unclothed on the street”.

But while they were driving Brittes saw the pictures and “lost his temper”.

According to the lawyer, his clients tried to persuade Brittes not to kill Daniel.

"They kept saying, 'Do not do this, it's going to ruin your life!,” said Domacoski.

It has reported that investigators have now recovered a telephone conversation Brittes had hours after Daniel’s death

In it he described the “devastation” wrought on the family by the death but makes no mention of the alleged attempted rape he reported to police after his arrest.

Brittes says Allana “was such a good friend” of Correa and “he came a long way just for the party and everybody liked him”.

“He was very fond of my daughter, you can imagine. I can hardly talk about it. My daughter is in shock. Jesus, I had to give her a tranquiliser.”

The businessman also said Correa was extremely drunk and had left the house earlier but he didn’t know where he had gone.

“Nobody knows what happened. You know how big my property is,” he said.

“He went outside and the door was open because there were more people coming in. He was very drunk. He was crazy, absolutely hammered. He could hardly stand up.”

The photos were recovered from WhatsApp messages Daniel sent friends just before he was killed.

He bragged in one message showing him cosying up to pretty Cristiana as she lay with her head on her pillow, saying: “I can sleep here. There are several women sleeping all over the house.”

In another he added: “I’m going to eat the birthday girl’s mum…and the dad is here.”

An unnamed friend, in an ominous warning, responded: “Is he asleep? Nothing you can do then, they’re going to kick you out of the house”

Another added: “They’re going to make mincemeat of you, that guy is going to come and beat you up.”

Edson Brittes Junior’s police confession came after he told a TV programme he had dragged the footballer off his wife and beaten him.

Recalling how he had smashed his bedroom door down after finding it locked and hearing his wife’s screams from inside, he said: “That’s when I dragged him off my wife, threw him to the floor and stopped that monster raping my wife.

“I hit him a lot, a lot and took him out of the house. I don’t know if he was awake or unconscious or if he had just closed his eyes.

“I wasn’t thinking of anything. I had a knife in the car, a small knife, which was with the tools in the boot.

"I did not know I was going to do that, I was desperate, beside myself with rage. I looked in the boot and saw what was there.”

Police arrested the businessman’s wife and daughter after concluding they had tried to persuade witnesses to cover up the murder.
