Levi Bellfield's childhood best pal believes he may have killed 14-year-old girl when he was just 12

Michelle Hitchin believes the sick serial killer may have claimed his first victim near his west London home – when he was just 12.

The 52-year-old says Bellfield wasn't at school the day Patsy Morris, 14, was found strangled to death on Hounslow Heath on June 16, 1980.

Michelle, who was herself questioned over the murder, told the Mirror: “They said she was strangled with stockings. I didn’t know what the hell they was going on about.

“I didn’t see Levi near the Heath that day. He did spend quite some time bunking off over there and could have been there.”

She told the newspaper that "looking at it now", she believes the 50-year-old Milly Dowler murderer could be responsible for the teen's death.

Michelle added: “The police should talk to him. I think there’s more people he has killed that we don’t know about.”

Detectives at the time believed Patsy's killer knew the heath well and that they suspected truanting children weren't letting on everything they knew.

It's not thought Bellfield was questioned and Patsy's death has remained unsolved.

Patsy’s late father, George, said that soon after the murder he had a death threat from a boy he later suspected could have been Bellfield.

Scotland Yard said: “Any new information will be assessed.”

Bellfield was jailed for life in 2008 after being convicted of the murders of Marsha McDonnell, 19, and 22-year-old Amélie Delagrange, as well as attempting to murder Kate Sheedy.

Two years later, while behind bars, he was charged with the abduction and murder of 13-year-old schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

He was convicted of the slaying on June 23, 2011, and sentenced to life again with a recommendation that he never be released.

Bellfield is alleged to have confessed to the 1996 murders of Lin Russell and her six-year-old daughter Megan.

Lin and her two daughters were attacked as they walked the family dog down a country lane in Chillenden, near Dover, Kent.

They were accosted and blindfolded by their attacker before being bludgeoned with a claw hammer, one by one.
