Lovestruck man tracks down Vicky Pattison lookalike he fancied on holiday

A lovestruck man has managed to track down a woman he fell for on holiday.

Smitten Gary Guest met his “princess” Marie in a bar in Albufeira in Portugal during a lads’ holiday and told her: "You can be my Vicky Pattison" after buying her drink.

But he failed to get her number and when he returned home to Nottingham he couldn’t think of anything else but her.

Armed with the only information he had – her first name and that she was from the North East – he tried to find her on social media.

Unable to search through the thousands of Maries, he asked his local paper Chronicle Live to play Cupid and put out his plea for the correct Marie to step forward.

And within hours of our story going live, Gary was put in touch with the woman of his dreams – Marie Donnelly from Gateshead.

“Obviously I was really, really shocked but proper flattered,” said Marie, 29, who works in public relations – and is single.

“Two of my friends, who I was on holiday with in Albufeira, are in Ibiza at the minute and they saw the story online over there.

"One of the girls tagged me in and said ‘that is 100% you he is looking for’.”

She added: “When the story popped up on Facebook my heart was pounding, it is a lovely thing for him to do.”

Gary was sitting in Sir Harry’s bar in the Old Town Square with his friends on Tuesday, June 19, at around 11pm when Marie walked in.

The 42-year-old couldn’t take his eyes off her and asked to buy her a drink via the bar waitress.

Gary then took the drink over to her and said ‘that is for a beautiful princess’.

Marie then thanked him and kissed him on the cheek. The guys asked her name and she told them she was Marie from the North East.

Gary said ‘you can be my Vicky Pattison’ and she said ‘I CAN be your Vicky Pattison’.

Marie sat back down and then, about 10 minutes later the women got up from their table and left.

Gary jumped up to give her one last kiss on the cheek and Marie walked away into the distance.

Gary told Chronicle Live : “Like a fool, I let her go.”

But Gary’s heart pined for her and he was determined to find the love of his life.

After Gary’s story went live, one of Marie’s friends emailed him telling him he’d found his Marie.

And delighted Gary was quick off the mark messaging her.

“We’ve swapped numbers and we have messaged each other.

"I asked if I could come up to Newcastle next weekend but Marie is going to Italy, so it might be the weekend after – World Cup weekend,” said Gary, a section foreman on the HS2 rail link.

“It was great news that I managed to find Marie but I messaged her saying I hope I hadn’t embarrassed her. I would love to have a date with her.”

Marie, who doesn’t want to go public, added: “It’s a lovely thing he’s done, I can’t believe he has gone to all this trouble.

“There are six of us girls who go on holiday every year to Albufeira and this time it was for one of the girls’ 50th birthday.

“It happened exactly how he said. I was really taken back at what he did to try and find me. We’ll see where we go from here.”
