A man was mauled to death by a bear after he reportedly stopped and tried to take a selfie with it.
Prabhu Bhatara was on his way home from a wedding when he jumped out of the SUV he was travelling in to go to the toilet.
He is believed to have spotted the injured bear and tried to take a selfie with the animal, it is claimed.
Others in the vehicle cautioned him against taking the photo, but he was attacked when he got too close.
Forest officials – who had to tranquilise the bear to recover his body – said a stray dog tried to fight with the bear but failed to save the man.
Forest ranger Dhanurjaya Mohapatra said: "Bhatara died on the spot.
"The bear is being treated for its injuries."
The incident happened on Wednesday near Papadahandi in Nabarangpur district of Odisha, India.
