“Tricky,” but not tricky enough.
That’s the message from Abbotsford police to a man wanted on nine warrants, who police say tried to trick them into believing he’d left the province.
Stevie Ryan Ziko, 32, is facing 27 charges from alleged crimes around B.C., including identity theft, fraud, use of forged documents, breach of probation and assaulting a police officer.
According to Abbotsford police, Ziko spoke with investigators by phone last week. As officers attempted to persuade him to turn himself in, police said he instead told them he’d moved to Calgary.
“AbbyPD believes that this was a diversionary tactic, and ZIKO in fact remains at large in B.C.,” said police in a media release.
“It has since been determined that the phone ZIKO used to speak with police is associated to two active investigations for the fraudulent purchase of high-end SUVs,” read the release.
Ziko is described as five-foot-10, weighing 180 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Police believe he remains in the Lower Mainland, and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact investigators.
