Meet the man up against Prince William and Rio Ferdinand for Dad of the Year

Meet the man who is set to take on royalty, sporting icons and international pop stars for the title of Dad of the Year.

Funny social media star Mark Hoyle, a dad-of-one whose videos have been watched by millions online, has found himself on the same shortlist as nine other celebrities in 2018’s Celebrity Dad of the Year contest.

For most, facing the likes of Prince William , heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and football star Rio Ferdinand would be a step too far, but the 31-year-old is determined to give it a go.

Mark, aka LadBaby, a 31-year-old Forest fan originally from West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, who now lives in Hertfordshire, rose to fame with a video about a toolkit turned in to a lunchbox.

He has one two-year-old son named Phoenix and is expecting another next week.

The graphic designer said: "There’s a future king, two heavyweight champions and a former England captain, it’s not a list I thought I’d ever be on.

"What made me laugh was Sky did a photo of everyone shortlisted. Some were on the red carpet, some were on TV and mine was taken in a McDonald’s in Long Eaton.

"I might be the underdog but I am going to shout about it. I’m in it to win it."

Speaking about fatherhood he added: "It has been a journey, up and down, but it’s a bumpy road for everybody. I did not have a clue what I was doing when I first became a dad but I like to think I’ve done a decent job.

"I just try and be as supportive and funny as I can. Be there for him and make him laugh every day, no kid has ever been bad that was raised in love and laughter."

The Clas Ohlson Celebrity Dad of the Year Awards were founded 100 years ago by Swedish dad on a mission to simplify home life for everyone with great value, practical solutions and household essentials.

The other shortlisted dads for the Clas Ohlson award are: Anthony Joshua, David Walliams, Joshua Patterson (JP), Liam Payne, Prince William, Rio Ferdinand, Simon Cowell, Simon Thomas and Tyson Fury.

Melissa Titshall, head of marketing at Clas Ohlson, said: "This year’s shortlist celebrates the many dads out there who are providing inspiration not only to their fans, but also to their children.

“Parenthood is at the heart of what we do as a brand, which was founded 100 years ago by a father in Sweden. We centre our values around warmth to our customers and co-workers, as well as innovation and service mindedness."

Voting closes at midnight on Sunday, June 10 and the winner will be announced on Father’s Day.
