Meghan Markle has opened up about her childhood in the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast, admitting that she “romanticised” a perfect “cookie cutter” life after her parents' divorce.
After releasing her first episode a few weeks ago, the Duchess of Sussex's latest podcast featured star of the US series of The Office Mindy Kaling, who has taken the unusual decision to have children as a single mother.
The Duchess of Sussex, meanwhile, has refused to discuss her estranged father Thomas Markle after he was not invited to her royal wedding and was urged to reach out by her half-sister after he suffered a stroke earlier this year.

Now, Meghan has hinted at the impact of her parents' split, when she sat down with her next guest to chat about the ‘Stigma of the Singleton’, and delved into intimate details about her childhood.
“I was alone so much as a child… Gosh, I read a lot of Archie comic books. My son is not named after Archie comic books but I loved them,” Meghan remembered.
“My parents split up when I was around two or three years-old and I always wanted this sort of cookie cutter-looking perfect life… I romanticised that.
“It’s all part of the things that make you have this idea of what you want your life to be like when you grow up… Am I going to get the guy one day? I was the smart one, not the pretty one.

“All of this stuff was wrapped up in reading Archie comic books and I think was aspirational in some ways.”
The former Suits star admitted that she was aware of the coincidence that she had gone on to name her first child Archie and also laughed about the fact that she had married a redhead.
During the podcast episode, Meghan also addressed her time in school, admitting that she had sought to fill her lunch times with meetings to avoid being alone on her breaks when asked if she had been pretty growing up.
“Oh no, [I was an] ugly duckling… I had massive frizzy, curly hair and a huge gap in my teeth. I was the smart one forever and ever, and then just sort of grew up,” she confessed.
“I never had anyone to sit with at lunch, I was always a bit of a loner and really shy and didn’t know where I fit in.”
