Mum sent eerie text to pal before she vanished in Mexico and daughter, 2, was found abandoned at church

AN Australian woman who disappeared in Mexico earlier this month sent a strange text message to a friend before she vanished.

Tahnee, 32, and her husband Jorge Luis Aguirre Astudillo were reported missing when Shanks’ daughter Adelynn was found alone in a Cancun church.

It has now been revealed that in the weeks before she went missing, the young mother had sent a series of texts to a friend asking her to remember a name – that of her husband.

“I know this is gunna sound weird but keep (his) name. Jorge Luis Aguirre Astudillo! Just in case anything happens to me they can go after him,” she wrote in the first text message.

“Not that anything will! But I just want to keep that as a backup.”

The family of three was last seen driving past a toll road checkpoint on a road from Cancun to Merida as they returned from a mini-family holiday in Cancun where they had spent the night.

Police confirmed footage showed both Jorge Aguirre Astudillo and Adalynn were in the white Toyota Tundra.

But eight hours later, little Adelynn was found barefoot outside the church- a sign that the trio might have gone back to the resort town.

On the same day that Adelynn was found, the car the pair was traveling in was found burnt out about 40 minutes south of Cancun, police confirmed.

The revelation of Tahnee’s messages to her friend, who is not known, comes after the mum’s brother, Daniel Shanks told the Australian show Sunrise that he feared for his sister’s welfare.

“I’m assuming he’s dumped the car and got some other form of transport, and he’s on the run,” Daniel said.

“So if he’s capable of doing that to his daughter, well, that’s what we’re so worried about.”

Daniel confirmed that his sister’s phone had stopped pinging soon after Adelynn was found in the church.

“It might have been a couple of hours I understand,” he said.

In the days before she disappeared Tahnee posted a series of cryptic messages including a quote from poems, one of which said “I hope you speak what’s on your mind”.

Another read “I think there’s a point in your healing journey where you stop trying to convince people to do the right thing”.

Adelynn, affectionately known as Addy, has been reunited with Tahnee's family from Queensland after being granted an emergency visa. Tahnee had been living in Mexico for nine years.

Investigations into the whereabouts of Tahnee and Jorge Aguirre Astudillo are still ongoing, and authorities are currently treating the couple as victims.

Daniel has offered a one million peso reward (A$70,000) for information on Tahnee's disappearance, but he has so far not received a response.
