The pictures that tell the horror, heartbreak and humanity of the Grenfell Tower disaster

Images of Grenfell Tower – situated in one of England's wealthiest areas of North Kensington – submerged in flames were soon followed in the coming days by tearful firefighters, inconsolable neighbours and furious protesters.

Today the community is coming together to mark one year since the tragedy.

Twelve blocks in the surrounding area have been turned green in a show of solidarity across the West London skyline, alongside Downing Street which is also being illuminated.

The blaze claimed the lives of 72 victims including 53 adults, 18 children, one stillborn baby who died on the day of the fire and Maria del Pilar Burton, who died the following January.
