Police hunt for girl, 8, seen alone in street at midnight ‘followed by two men’

Police are looking for an eight-year-old school girl who was seen walking alone in her school uniform just before midnight.

The girl described as " young, dark-skinned" and who had her hair in a pony tail and was believed to be wearing a rucksack on her back.

Police are concerned for the girl’s welfare after concerned members of the public called them to report seeing the girl on Asylum Road, Southwark, London on Monday just before midnight.

Two men, both described as Asian, were seen walking down the road after the girl.

Officers are keen to trace the men to eliminate them from their enquires and locate the girl.

Detective Inspector Dean Purvis said: “I would like to stress that there is no evidence that a crime has occurred and there have been no reports of any missing children.

"We need to identify the girl and make sure that she is ok.

“It is not clear if the two males seen in the area are known to the young girl.

"However, I need to trace them as they may hold vital information to help us.

“I would urge anyone with any information to contact us and be assured we will treat information with the strictest confidence."
