Prince Harry consults Diana’s spirit before making decisions, says expert

Prince Harry is believed to consult Diana, Princess of Wales' spirit before making any decisions, according to leading royal expert, Andrew Morton.

The Duke of Sussex, 37, and his wife Meghan Markle made the controversial decision to step down as senior working royals in January 2020 and their relationship with Prince Charles, Prince William and The Royal Family is believed to have not improved.

Despite the former military serviceman having a frosty relationship with his family, he's continued to praise his late mother, who tragically died when he was just 12.

Now, Diana's biographer Andrew Morton has shed light on a way that Harry continues to maintain a bond with the late princess.

Speaking on the Pod Save the Queen podcast, Andrew said: "I think that Diana's influence has lasted longer than anybody thought because her torchbearers in life, William and Harry, have not forgotten her and have held concerts in her memory.

"Harry himself says that he never makes a decision without referring it to her in a spiritual sense.

"She marked a turning point in the way the Royal Family behaved and through her behaviour helped to modernise and make more human the Royal Family.

"So it wasn't big handbags, white gloves and standoffish. It was more touchy-feely than it had ever been in the past. So she made the Royal Family more relevant to modern times."

Andrew went on to claim that Harry and Meghan had been conversing about stepping down from royal life a long time before the news was actually decided.

He claimed that in November 2018, six months after he and Meghan tied the knot at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, he was having conversations with Oprah Winfrey in a London hotel.

"So they were thinking about a different direction of travel pretty early on," he said

Andrew continued: "The irony is they had been given the keys to the first-class lounge when Harry was given the position of Youth Ambassador to the Commonwealth.

"This was effectively the Queen's way of saying 'you do the rest of the world, leave William and Catherine to do the UK where they will eventually be the Heads of State'."

Harry has previously spoken about the death of his mother and the trauma it caused him, explaining that he turned to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain.

He told Oprah on the documentary series, The Me You Can't See: "I was just all over the place mentally, every time I put a suit on and tie on, having to do the role, and go, 'right, game face’, look in the mirror and say, 'let's go', before I even left the house I was pouring with sweat.

"I was in fight or flight mode."
