The US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate was involved in a number of fiery exchanges with the BBC’s Andrew Marr over Joe Biden’s renewable energy proposals for the US. Mr Kerry slammed Marr for presenting a false choice between quality of life and renewable energy in America.

Mr Marr asked: “All coal-powered fire stations, the United States will support that?”

Mr Kerry replied: “Well, what is the phase-out schedule, is it reasonable, is everybody working in the same direction, these are questions I am sure President Biden will want answered.

“He is leading this charge to move America onto renewable alternative energy and we are already doing it.

“I cannot speak for the President on that specific proposal but we are behaving in the way that we are talking which is moving towards alternative and renewable as fast as we can.”

The BBC Presenter said: “I remember very vividly President George Bush senior saying that the American way of life is not up for negotiation period.

“And that is still your message isn’t it?”

Mr Kerry responded: “Well I think there is a false choice here, that you are presenting people.

“You do not have to give up a quality of life to achieve some of the things we have to achieve.”
