The minibus was en route to Geneva airport carrying 11 people travelling home during the busy half-term skiing season.

The Times reported that officials said the 4×4 was travelling from the airport to Peisey-Vallandry in the La Plagne and Les Arcs resort areas when the accident occurred.

In a statement, a police spokesman said: “One of the vehicles clearly left its side of the road, but we don’t know which one yet.”

The police confirmed neither driver had been drinking or taking drugs.

Around 30 firefighters attended the scene of the accident with the injured being taken by road and by air to local hospitals in Chambery, Albertville, and Grenoble.
