Online messaging platform Slack is down leaving millions of home workers struggling to communicate with their teams.

Downdetector, which offers real-time status and outage information, reports that thousands of users have reported issues accessing the app on Monday, January 4, afternoon.

Slack has confirmed that users are experiencing difficulty connecting to the app to load channels, saying that its team is working on fixing the problem.

It also apologised for any disruption caused.

In a tweet, Slack Status wrote: "Customers may experience issues connecting to Slack to loading channels at this time.

"Our team is on the case and we will keep you posted. Apologies for any disruption."

Users took to social media to share news of the app's outage.

One Twitter user wrote: "Slack is down, can't work now. Back to vacation mode!"

Another added: "Yup, Slack is down.

"It's okay. Breathe. Relax. Phone calls and emails should still work just fine.

"And now's a great time to consider that maybe some of us are on Slack waaaayyyyy too much anyway."

"First Monday of the year, so it makes sense that Slack is down," another wrote.
