Teen basketball star dies after asking for drink during game

A Tennessee high school basketball star died after he suddenly collapsed on the court, according to reports.

Javon Craddock, a student at Tyner Academy, was playing Wednesday at the Boys and Girls Club in Chattanooga when he fell unconscious, The Times Free Press reported.

His basketball coach, E’Jay Ward, said the sophomore “stopped playing and asked for a drink and just died,” according to the newspaper.

The 16-year-old was rushed from the court to a local hospital, where he later died. Officials have not released Craddock’s cause of death.

His coach said the team was stunned since the player had no known health issues and didn’t appear under distress during the game.

Craddock’s high school paid tribute to the teen Thursday, remembering him as an “exceptional basketball player” in a Facebook post.

“This upcoming year was going to be a breakout year for him,” Ward told news station WTVC. “He was probably the best shooter in the state of Tennessee.”
