Two female fans were booted from the Australian Open after a heated tug-of-war battle for a tennis star’s sweatband turned ugly.

Belarussian star Aryna Sabalenka had just delivered an impressive win over Britain’s Katie Boutler at Melbourne Park on Tuesday.

She generously tossed her sweatband into the crowd after making her way into the third round of the Open,

What was meant to be a celebratory gesture of goodwill though, quickly turned sour.

Video footage showed two fans in the grandstand at each other’s throats for the sweatband.

A woman in a white tennis cap pulled at the sweatband while a woman dressed in a pink singlet stood her ground, unwilling to let go of the prized catch.
