  • The jewellery store suffered a similar incident of vandalism last year

A burger-eating Grinch was caught tearing down Christmas lights from an incredible display in a matter of seconds – before walking off.

On Wednesday night, at around 9.30pm, Liverpool jewellery store Boodles was targeted by a man who took issue with their stunning decorations.

CCTV footage captured a man ripping down some of the 8,000 lights as he walked past eating what appeared to be a burger.

The video shows the man approach the store, wearing a black coat and black trousers, before running his hand along some of the lights.

After just a few seconds, he then grabs a handful of them and pulls them from the display as he continues to walk.

He eventually drops the lights and heads on his way towards Victoria Street. The luxury shop, which is on the corner of Lord Street and North John Street, was lavishly decorated ahead of the festive season and has been attracting hundreds of admirers in the city centre.

A spokesperson for Boodles told the Echo: ‘Stylish jewellers Boodles, whose flagship showroom on the corner of Lord Street and North John Street, has been spectacularly decorated for the festive season, was the target of a festive Grinch last night!

‘The showroom has been decorated with over 8,000 sparkling lights on a purpose built construction by local company, The Festive Decorators, and was installed to compliment the Christmas lights around the city centre and make the showroom look super festive.

‘At 9.30pm last night the showroom was targeted by a mindless individual who pulled an entire length of lighting from the structure for no apparent reason.’

This is sadly not the first time the beautiful green flower wall and golden lights have been targeted however. Last Christmas, two men were spotted wrenching part of the display from the wall before running off.

Sam Evans, General Manager at Boodles, said: ‘Our showroom has been voted one of the most festive in the city and we go to great lengths to make sure that it looks spectacular at this time of year.

‘People pop into our showroom every day to tell us how beautiful it looks and people stop to take pictures of it regularly.

‘This mindless vandalism by one individual is disappointing to say the least.

‘Thankfully, The Festive Decorators came and repaired the damage first thing this morning, free of charge, so we are back looking fabulous and festive again.’
