A Venezuelan veterinarian – busted overseas for allegedly trafficking heroin inside of puppies – has been extradited to New York, according to law enforcement sources.
Accused drug runner Andres Lopez Elorza, 33, arrived at JFK on Monday afternoon and is expected to appear in Brooklyn federal court on Tuesday, the sources said.
He donned a green jacket and put his hands inside his blue sweater to conceal handcuffs as he was taken by US Marshals at the airport, NBC reported.
Lopez Elorza was arrested in Spain back in 2015 in connection to a raid at a vet clinic he ran in Colombia where authorities found 6.6 pounds of heroin implanted inside three puppies.
This bust targeted a drug-trafficking gang that used dogs to send liquid heroin from Colombia to the United States, authorities said.
