Waffle House hero James Shaw said Wednesday that President Trump’s belated call to congratulate him for disarming an AR-15 toting gunman was decidedly underwhelming — calling it “lackluster.”
Trump had a brief phone chat with Shaw on Monday, 22 days after he had wrestled the semi-automatic rifle away from the gunman, who killed four people and wounded two others at the Nashville eatery.
TMZ, which first reported Shaw’s reaction, said the hero was quick to thank Trump for reaching out.
Trump called Shaw “to commend his heroic actions and quick thinking last month,” White House spokesman Raj Shah said Monday.
A suspect was captured a day later, ending a 34-hour manhunt.
