Chateauneuf du FLAT: Online wine merchant to start delivering bottles that can fit through letter boxes so customers never miss a delivery

An online wine merchant is to start delivering bottles that can fit through letter boxes – so that customers will never miss a delivery again.

Naked Wines, whose parent company is Majestic, will start dispatching the unusual Garcon Wines products that still hold the standard 750ml but are half the width.

Founder Joe Revell came up with the ingenious idea two years ago after listening to a friend complain about missing their order, reports the Sunday People.

The new thinner shape will put a stop to having to stay home to receive the delivery or risking a neighbour being around to answer the door.

Instead the bottle can be slipped through the letter box and sit waiting on the mat until the purchaser gets home.

Although the 32cm-tall bottles are made of plastic, not glass, they will be sent out in cardboard boxes to soften the fall and reduce the chance of spilled wine.

Naked Wines spokeswoman Laura Rosenberger said: ‘Letterbox-friendly bottles offer customers a new way to send gifts and introduce their friends to our business.’

Majestic have launched a huge marketing drive for the letterbox product and hope more wines will be available by post in this way if it is successful.

There are several types of wine available currently including a Spanish Rosal Rose and a Flaca Merlot Chilean wine – with each costing less than £20.

The wines are available from a range of UK online stockists including bottle&boxed and Gifted To You.
