Cops were called to the victim's home in Bromley, South London, in the early hours of the morning but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A 36-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder.
Officers confirmed they had received a concern for welfare call regarding a man at the address.
Scotland Yard said they are not looking for anyone in else connection with the incident.
A post mortem will be carried out in due course.
A spokesman said: "A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead at a residential address in Bromley.
"Police received a concern for welfare call regarding a man at an address in Stoneleigh Road, Bromley, at 01:07hrs on Friday, 31 August.
"Officers attended and forced entry into the address and found an unresponsive woman aged in her 60s.
"The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating."
The woman is the 102nd person to die in London this year after the capital was plagued by bloodshed.
It comes just days after a 22-year-old was stabbed to death in Deptford, South East London on Saturday.
