A yodeller accused of helping a killer clown butcher a woman has denied involvement and revealed the horrific moment his friend showed him a corpse.
Alpine apres-ski entertainer Dietwin Haegheman, from Melle, Belgium, said he was shocked when he realised award-winning clown Kevin Leipere, 31, was a murderer.
Haegheman, 38, was speaking after the pair were arrested by Belgian police following the death of Leipere’s former girlfriend.
The body of the 47-year-old woman, named only as Caroline D., was found in the garage of her home in the town of Oudenburg, near the Belgian port city of Ostend.

Police found her children, aged 12, 15 and 17, tied up in the attic. There are reports they were forced to watch as their mother was butchered.
Haegheman, known professionally as ‘Dietwin de Jodelaar’ (Dietwin the Yodeller) said that Leipere called him to have a meeting in Caroline D.’s house to discuss how to further his career as an apres-ski entertainer.
Haegheman said: ‘We had a meeting about my career. Suddenly he asked if I knew why it was so silent in the house. Then he showed me the horrors.’
When Leipere brought Haegheman to the garage, he saw the leg of a lifeless body, after which the clown brought him to the tied-up and gagged children, according to reports.
Leipere, who performs as Clown Tobi, was voted as the best clown in Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg in 2011 because of his ‘indelible impression on the audience’
According to the Belgian Police, Leipere (pictured) confessed to the murder yesterday during an eight-hour interrogation
Haegheman said that he became afraid for his own life, and said he would alert police because he ‘wanted to have nothing to do with it’.
The yodeller however left the house without alerting police because ‘Kevin [Leipere] said in our talk that he would give himself up.’
Haegheman was later arrested in the town of Melle, while Leipere was arrested in his home town of Breedene after a long stand-off on a 13-storey block of flats in which he started firing a gun into the air, threw a gas bottle down and threatened to jump.
Haegheman’s lawyer Maxime van Winkel said: ‘My client is, unlike the other suspect, not suspected of murder.
Haegheman is professionally known as ‘Dietwin de Jodelaar’ (Dietwin the Yodeller) and is something of a minor celebrity in Belgium
Dressed in his trademark lederhosen and drinking beer, Haegheman performed yodelling and apres-ski acts across the country

‘We are awaiting the investigation, which should give a definite answer about other facts such as deprivation of freedom, of which he is suspected at the moment.’
According to the Belgian Police, Leipere confessed to the murder yesterday during an eight-hour interrogation.
He reportedly told police he killed her ‘because her three children could not stand me’. He believed that, as a result, she had decided to break up with him.
Family friends of Caroline D. said that she ‘was in the beginning madly in love with the maniacal bawler, but that it really did not work between him and her children.’
The friends said that they think that Leipere, who was known as Clown Tobi or Doctor Aspirin and used the slogan ‘too crazy for words’ for his shows, chose last Sunday to kill Caroline D. because it was Mother’s Day in Belgium.
