{"id":180532,"date":"2023-10-04T12:47:01","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T12:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotworldreport.com\/?p=180532"},"modified":"2023-10-04T12:47:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T12:47:01","slug":"police-officers-are-working-without-any-record-of-background-checks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotworldreport.com\/world-news\/police-officers-are-working-without-any-record-of-background-checks\/","title":{"rendered":"Police officers are working without any record of background checks"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Police officers are working without any record of background checks for past convictions, watchdog reveals<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Watchdog found Scottish police officers are working with no background check\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Police officers have been allowed to work despite no records of checks on their backgrounds or any past convictions, a watchdog has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>A review of the force\u2019s vetting procedures also found there was no requirement for vetting of officers and staff to be repeated beyond recruitment checks.<\/p>\n<p>Craig Naylor, His Majesty\u2019s Chief Inspector of Constabulary in Scotland, said this represented a significant risk and called for all personnel to be re-vetted at least every decade.<\/p>\n<p>The review was commissioned after a string of controversies hit policing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/04\/13\/76157533-12592901-image-a-10_1696420896516.jpg\" height=\"426\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>A review of the force\u2019s vetting procedures also found there was no requirement for vetting of officers (Pictured, stock image)<\/p>\n<p>The Mail revealed last year that hundreds of Scottish officers had been reported to bosses over sexual assault and other serious misconduct claims.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scottish\u00a0Tory justice spokesman Russell Findlay said: \u2018In the wake of numerous cases of serious wrongdoing, and to maintain public confidence, SNP ministers must ensure that the force has sufficient resources to conduct these vitally important background checks.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on his review, Mr Naylor said: \u2018Significant steps have been taken&#8230; to provide assurance that officers and staff working within policing have been checked and any risks identified highlighted and managed appropriately.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The report found \u2018not all serving police officers and police staff have a vetting record held on Core-Vet\u2019 (the Police Scotland vetting system).<\/p>\n<p>It did not disclose how many lacked records.
