Christmas crackers are a festive staple, with paper hats, bad jokes and often-useless gifts, but this year, luxury department store Harrods is selling a posh box for a whopping £750.

The eye-watering price for just six crackers means customers will be paying £125 per party favour.

But the box does contain designer gear, gift vouchers and perfume – as well as the gift of not having to fake laugh at terrible quips.

Those who pull the cracker on Christmas Day will find either an Aspinal of London heart keyring, a Wolf 1834 card holder, a Gingerlily silk eye mask, a silver card holder by Christofle, a 15ml vial of Trudon perfume or a Dr. Vranjes candle.

Also tucked inside will be a £50 gift voucher for whichever designer brand the treat they managed to grab is from.

Those who pull the cracker on Christmas Day will find either an Aspinal of London heart keyring, a Wolf 1834 card holder, a Gingerlily silk eye mask, a silver card holder by Christofle, a 15ml vial of Trudon perfume or a Dr. Vranjes candle

The Aspinal of London heart keyring is just £45 to buy, but comes with a £50 voucher off your next purchase from the brand

Dubbed the Luxury ‘Gilty’ Pleasures crackers, the set is described on the London department store’s website as ‘the main event’.

It reads: ‘Opening gifts on Christmas morning may be the traditional highlight of the day, but this year, Harrods’ luxury Christmas crackers are determined to be the main event.

‘Comprised of six unique gifts, this collection is the ultimate “Gilty” Pleasure, bestowing two lavish card holders, an eau de parfum and vouchers galore on a lucky festive winner!’

But despite the high price point only one of the gifts costs more than the £125-per-cracker price if you were buy on its own, and only just, as the Christofle card holder costs £130.

The Aspinal of London heart keyring is just £45 to buy, while you can grab a Gingerlily eye mask for as little as £42.

Despite this, the cracker closes the gap by gifting each recipient a £50 voucher to spend on the designer brands.

However the total value of the contents of the crackers stands at £642 – more than £100 less that the £750 price point.

The store does also have cheaper crackers at £109, including a culinary edition with jokes, hats and a kitchen utensil for each lucky guest.

The store released a similar £750 set last year, containing Cowshed bath oil, an ST Dupont ballpoint pen, Christofle ornaments, or D’Orsay perfume.

Dupoint pens cost anywhere from £250 to £1,500, so last year’s box came with more of a steal.
