I listened to my four-year-old daughter this morning pretending to phone her granny, and asking when she will come back.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The First Minister reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire.<\/p>\n<h3>READ MORE:\u00a0SNP leader Humza Yousaf says his wife&#8217;s parents are living through &#8216;torture&#8217; in Gaza and have been left with just six bottles of clean drinking water between 100 people<\/h3>\n<p>Mr Yousaf said: &#8216;It is a desperately difficult situation for us personally but my thoughts are very much with the innocent men, women and children in Gaza who have been collectively punished intensely over the last few weeks for a crime that they did not commit and that&#8217;s why we need a ceasefire and we need one now.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The First Minister previously wrote to all political leaders in the UK, urging them to back a ceasefire in Gaza. In a letter understood to have been sent on Thursday evening, he said Israel has a right to defend itself following the attacks but added action must be taken now to stop the &#8216;staggering humanitarian disaster&#8217; unfolding in Gaza before it becomes &#8216;cataclysmic&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Yousaf has continued to repeat his call for a ceasefire in the war-torn country and updated social media, telling his followers that his main concerns lie with the innocent.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing his update to X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: &#8216;I&#8217;m afraid we have not heard from my in-laws.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;My concern is for all the innocent people suffering for a crime they did not commit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216; If you did not vote for peace, while children are dying, then I do not know how you sleep at night.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He finished the post with the hashtag #CeaserfireNow.<\/p>\n<p>Taking to social media on Friday night, Mr Yousaf said that telecommunications into the region had been cut, leaving them unable to know if Madia El-Nakla&#8217;s family, including her parents, are alive.<\/p>\n<p>This statement was echoed by local telecoms firms as they said all internet and mobile service had gone, amid some of the heaviest bombardment of the Gaza Strip by Israel yet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/28\/12\/77112761-12682881-image-m-9_1698494262353.jpg\" height=\"303\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Mr Yousaf has continued to repeat his call for a ceasefire in the war-torn country and today updated social media, telling his followers that his main concerns lie with the innocent<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/27\/20\/77094885-12681245-image-m-97_1698436077158.jpg\" height=\"787\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It comes after the huge expansion in ground operations by Israel amid ongoing bombardment targeting terror group Hamas today<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/27\/19\/77093565-12681245-image-a-64_1698432944050.jpg\" height=\"382\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/27\/19\/77092963-12681245-image-a-63_1698432847937.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Taking to social media on Friday night, Mr Yousaf said that telecommunications into the region have been cut<\/p>\n<p>Israel has been warning of an imminent ground offensive for weeks after Hamas launched a brutal surprise assault into Israeli territory, killing at least 1,400 people, most of whom were civilians.<\/p>\n<p>Its chief military spokesperson confirmed air and ground operations would be significantly stepped up overnight as it continues its response to the attacks, which the Hamas-led Palestinian health ministry so far says has killed at least 7,300 people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hamas responded and said it is &#8216;ready&#8217; for an Israeli offensive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Yousaf said on Friday: &#8216;Gaza is under intense bombing. Telecommunications have been cut.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We can&#8217;t get through to our family who have been trapped in this war zone for almost 3 weeks. We can only pray they survive the night. But tonight, I may not be able to sleep at all. Please let me be wrong.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza with Richard Madeley, he was heavily criticised for asking whether her family had prior knowledge of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.<\/p>\n<p>International aid charities are also unable to contact their volunteers on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on social media, Oxfam said: &#8216;Gaza [is] facing total communication blackout as on ground and air offensive intensifies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Oxfam is deeply\u00a0concerned about the situation, especially the total loss of communication with Gaza. to self defence, in line with IHL [international humanitarian law], and continue to push for the protection of Palestinian civilians.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cleverly&#8217;s comments came shortly before the UN General Assembly passed a resolution calling for a &#8216;humanitarian truce&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;In the last hours, we intensified the attacks in Gaza,&#8217; Israeli Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told a televised news briefing, raising expectations that the long-anticipated ground invasion of Gaza may be beginning.<\/p>\n<p>He said the air force was conducting extensive strikes on Gaza and all its teams operating on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has said has been preparing a ground invasion, but has been urged by the U.S. and Arab countries to delay an operation that would multiply the number of civilian casualties in the densely populated coastal strip and might ignite a wider conflict.<\/p>\n<p>A ground invasion would markedly escalates Israel&#8217;s campaign of retribution for the deadly Hamas attack of October 7.<\/p>\n<p>Such an operation would exacerbate what aid groups call a humanitarian crisis in Gaza following days of aerial bombardment that Hamas health authorities say have killed more than 7,000 Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>That followed a shock attack by hundreds of Hamas gunmen, who rampaged through Israeli communities close to the Gaza Strip, killing 1,400 people and dragging more than 200 into captivity.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about a risk of a wider Middle East conflict have risen in recent days with the U.S. dispatching more military assets to the region as Israel pummelled targets in Gaza and Hamas supporters in Lebanon and Syria.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli leaders have vowed to wipe out Hamas, the Islamist movement that has run Gaza since 2007,
