A housing estate where 'feral yobs' reportedly ripped up a live pigeon before launching it into a chippy has been dubbed the UK's 'worst' by a YouTuber who found a flattened rat in a kids' park.

Blakenall Heath in Walsall has developed a name for itself and has regularly been hit with the label of the country's worst estate. Locals have spoken of the fear throughout the area as the thugs – some as young as 10 – run riot and knife amnesty boxes are needed to rid the area of dangerous blades.

And reports that a live pigeon was torn to pieces in front of staff and customers outside a local shop shows the extent of the craziness that's gripped the West Midlands town, known locally as Blakenall.

Off the back of its dark reputation, YouTube channel UK Explored visited the estate and had plenty to say about the locals, the fly-tipping and the general decay in the area.

"Honestly I was scared," the presenter said. "The moment I walked into Dawson Street and filmed the street sign a woman told me to 'F off' and then she started making a call on her phone."

"I heard her say 'they're filming right now, come and see' and I didn't want to find out who she was calling so I made a quick exit," he added as images of battered houses with boarded up windows are shown.

He surmised on Dawson Street that it is "probably as bad as the media is making out".

The presenter then showed "a flat rat in the kids park" and showed the scorched earth where "several fire pits had been burning at night".

He added that there around 400 crimes reported in Blakenall alone. Anti social behaviour, criminal damage and arson and violence and sexual offences dominate those stats, according to Street Check.

The estate has deteriorated over the past two years and has been compared to "war-torn Ukraine", and locals are even too scared to leave their homes during daylight hours.

Some residents even fear it's only a matter of time before lives are lost.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "It had got to the point where we are scared to leave our homes even in the daytime.

"The place has just rapidly declined into almost a state of lawlessness since the pandemic.

"Before then we did have issues but not to the scale we are seeing now. It's like a war-zone out there at times.

"The kids are running riot and they find it funny when police arrive. People are saying it's the roughest estate in Britain and I'm not sure I could argue with that."

Just some of the horror attacks include a home being set on fire, leaving the mum and children who lived there too scared to return, and a delivery driver who was hospitalised after a bottle was thrown at him.

Some streets around the area have been left full of fly-tipped waste to the point that they're barely usable, and a councillor for the area even described told how a live pigeon was torn to pieces in front of staff and customers outside a local shop.

A mum-of-seven, who also did not wish to be named, even said there was an unspoken rule that residents don't go out after 3pm.

West Midlands Police now say there is a plan of action to attempt to solve Blakenall's antisocial behaviour problem.

The police plan to step up patrols in the area and use dispersal orders in a bit to quash the violence after two years of suffering in the area.

West Midlands Police brought in a 48-hour dispersal order for Coalpool, Goscote, Harden and Blakenall after trouble flared on November 2 and youths pelted police cars with bricks.

In July, in nearby Bloxwich, a man was stabbed on a night of violence meanwhile Bailey Atkinson, local to the area, died when he was stabbed there in January.

Nearby Palfrey, also mentioned in the UK Explored video, saw the worst violence in recent memory after three men were injured in a machete fight at Palfrey Park.

The victims, aged 28, 26 and 25, suffered stab wounds but survived after being hospitalised.
