WHILE ski holidays remain a popular winter break among Brits, finding somewhere affordable can be a little tricky.<\/strong><\/p>\n Thankfully, a little-known destination in Bulgaria has just been named one of the cheapest ski resorts in Europe – thanks to its cut-price food and drink. <\/p>\n Borovets Ski Resort has been dubbed the cheapest in\u00a0Europe\u00a0by travel money<\/span> specialist,\u00a0eurochange.<\/p>\n They recently researched the\u00a0ski and snowboarding destinations\u00a0that are the best value for\u00a0money\u00a0for Brit holidaymakers.<\/p>\n The\u00a0travel money\u00a0specialists based their findings on factors like the cost of a lift pass, accommodation prices, ski rental costs, and the price of food and drink. <\/p>\n Laura Evans-Fisk, head of digital and engagement at\u00a0eurochange, said: "Skiing can be a very expensive holiday, especially for families. However, there are some fantastic resorts out there offering surprisingly reasonable prices, without compromising on those amazing views and fantastic ski runs.\u00a0<\/p>\n "Borovets in Bulgaria came out on top as the cheapest ski resort. <\/p>\n "It\u2019s definitely an underrated destination, with unbelievably low prices for food and drink, and a whole week lift pass for less than \u00a3150."<\/p>\n Located on the northern slopes of the Rila mountains, Borovets is described as a "gateway" to several ski and snowboard runs on the craggy Musala Ridge.<\/p>\n Not only does the Bulgarian town boast epic ski runs, but it's also very easy on the bank balance too. <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n While ski passes start from just \u00a329, renting<\/span> out ski equipment costs just \u00a310 per day (or \u00a360.22 for six days). <\/p>\n According to the research, accommodation can be snapped up from \u00a352.45 per night during the winter season. <\/p>\n Sun Online Travel have found overnight stays at Hotel Bor, a three-star hotel at the resort, for \u00a339 per person per night, based on two people sharing a room. <\/p>\n Food and drink is cheap too, with a pint of beer costing as little as \u00a31.17, while a glass of wine costs \u00a32.33. <\/p>\n Holidaymakers can also dine out extremely well on a budget, with a three-course costing \u00a35.83 per person.<\/p>\n Borovets was originally built in the 1890s, making it the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria. <\/p>\n The resort, which is the second largest of its kind in the country after Bansko, is surrounded by an Alpine woodland.<\/p>\n It's been highly praised as a good spot for beginners.<\/p>\n The Bulgarian ski resort has also been favourably reviewed by visitors on TripAdvisor too. <\/p>\n One person wrote: "A great ski resort, especially for beginners, and great for little children to learn on the very easy nursery slope, with coffee and bars all around."<\/p>\n Another person added: "It's quite affordable to ski there, with many food choices around."<\/p>\n While someone else said: "Great place for family skiing and adult holidays, it was very cosmopolitan, including friendly locals who were very welcoming." <\/p>\n Borovets is a 90-minute drive from Sofia (the Bulgarian capital), and it can also be reached via a two-hour train from the capital. <\/p>\n Both Wizz Air and Ryanair operate direct flights to Sofia from UK cities like London, Bristol, and Birmingham.<\/p>\n Prices start from \u00a313 for a one-way ticket, with flights taking three hours and 25 minutes.<\/p>\n The local language in Borovets is Bulgarian although people may speak English at the resort.<\/p>\n Bulgaria\u00a0is currently three hours ahead of the UK.<\/p>\n The local currency is the Bulgaria lev with \u00a310 getting around 22 lev.<\/p>\n There are currently no Covid restrictions and Brits can stay in Bulgaria for up to 90 days without a visa.<\/p>\n However, your\u00a0passport\u00a0must have at least three months left after the day you plan to leave.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, this\u00a0French ski resort has everything\u00a0from snowy slopes to stunning spas.<\/p>\n And here is the\u00a0\u00a3400billion megacity\u2019s ski resort\u00a0that's in the desert, with huge outdoor slopes and artificial snow<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
