The beautiful European town ‘prettier than Bologna’ without the crowds

A tiny medieval town in the north of Italy has all the charms of nearby Bologna without any of the annoying crowds.

Brisighella is a beautiful hidden town in the province of Ravenna that sits on the Lamone River.

It is a member of the I Borghi piu belli d’Italia Association, which celebrates the prettiest small towns in the country with strong historical and artistic interest.

The town has been called “prettier than Bologna”, a beautiful city about an hour’s drive to the northwest.

Brisighella’s silhouette is defined by three hills which are home to historic monuments – the 14th-century Rocca Manfrediana fortress, the 18th-century Sanctuary of Our Lady of Monticino and the 19th-century clock tower.

It also puts on a range of festivals throughout the year such as the Brisighella Romantica which sees the streets fill with candlelit dinners, the Medieval festival with historical reenactors and the Borgo Indie which celebrates local farm producers.

Brisighella is surrounded by fields, vineyards which can be toured and olive groves as well as being close to the Vena del Gesso Regional Park.
