Angela and Kai talk about Strictly rehearsals
Angela Rippon is getting “very angry” with herself while trying to learn her debut routine for Strictly Come Dancing 2023.
The TV presenter, 78, says she has been “mucking up” in rehearsals, while her supportive dance partner Kai Widdrington, 28, reassured her.
Taking to Instagram, Angela said: “There are bits of me aching that I didn’t know I had.”
The professional dancer responded, laughing: “I’ll leave that to the imagination. How are we feeling about our dance? We can’t tell them what it is though.”
She replied: “I’m enjoying doing it and I’m fine when I get the bits right, but I get very angry with myself when I absolutely muck it up and do it wrong.”

Kai was quick to let his 214,000 followers know that despite the mistakes, the pair were still having a great time together.
He added: “You say, ‘Oh knickers’ but were having fun.”
Just by being in Strictly, broadcasting legend Angela is setting a new record for the much-loved BBC programme.
She is its oldest-ever contestant at the age of 78; having had an illustrious career that has seen her host the likes of Rip Off Britain and Holiday Hit Squad, as well as Come Dancing, the iconic series that inspired Strictly.

Angela shared prior to the show that in her free time, she keeps very fit and can still do the splits.
She told Hello magazine: “I know people don’t describe people as fit because you’re sitting down. But the fact I can do splits and high kicks is kind of like a party trick, if you do the Rumba or the Cha-Cha-Cha a really lovely Waltz and Tango that requires you to dance.”
Angela’s Strictly stint will come 47 years after she stunned the 27 million viewers of Morecambe and Wise’s 1976 Christmas special by emerging from her newsreader’s desk to perform a high-kicking dance routine.
This was during an era when journalists never ventured into light entertainment.
As for how she feels about being one of the older contestants in this year’s series, Angela truly feels that age is just a number.
“I don’t really think about my age very much. I really don’t,” she said.
“It’s a number on a piece of paper. As far as I’m concerned.
“I have met a lot of older ladies saying, ‘Oh, we’re so pleased you’re doing this.’”
