Terrifying moment students run for their lives after mass shooting at university

Police in Prague are on alert after a shooting incident erupted at a school on Thursday afternoon.

People were seen fleeing for their lives with reports suggesting fatalities had been endured at the scene.

Locals of the surrounding area of Náměstí Jan Palach have been warned of the incident, with police warning people to stay away.

Czech media reports the incident took place at the local university’s Faculty of Philosophy.

Czech police tweeted: “We are currently responding to a reported shooting at a school in Náměstí Jan Palach.

“At the moment, all components of the IZS are going to the place. We will provide more information as soon as possible.”

One of the students stuck in the school, Jakob Weizmann, took to X to say he and other students were waiting to be evacuated.

He wrote: “Currently stuck inside my classroom in Prague. Shooter is dead, but we are waiting to be evacuated. Praying to make it out alive.

“Locked the door before the shooter tried to open it.”

Czech public television said, citing police, the person who opened fire was eliminated.

They say officers were deployed due to a shooting at a school in Jan Palach Square. The Philosophical Faculty of Charles University and the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design are located in that area.

The police department said the square has been sealed off. It urged people also to leave the surrounding streets and stay inside.

Jana Postova, a spokesperson for Prague’s rescue service, confirmed numerous people were injured but had no details.
