Amy Dowden shaves her head with support from family
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has bravely taken to Instagram to document the moment she shaved her hair as she continues to undergo treatment for cancer.
The star told her 509,000 followers “I took control” and “this too shall pass” in the caption accompanying the emotional video.
A tearful Amy can be seen taking selfies with friends and family who then take it in turns to help her with this poignant moment in her cancer journey by cutting off sections of her hair.
In the caption, she wrote: “The hardest step so far. I tried my best to save it. I know it’s only hair but these past few months I’ve had what feels like so much taken away from me that has made me not feel like Amy.
“I’m missing every possible aspect of dancing. I just wanted to keep my identity with my hair and I tried telling myself it wouldn’t go. But I would dread the pain of waking up to the shredding every day.

“I’ve not been able to take control of this journey so far, but as you can see with some of my loved ones I took the courage and CONTROL.
“It’s going to take some time to get used to and learn to love and embrace but, I’m now focussing-not on the hair I’m losing but the hair I’m going to get back and the happy dancing, tea lover who talks way to fast whilst rolling every rrrrr who is still there inside with or without hair!” (sic)
She continued: “Since taking control, I feel I can now see the finish line. This for me was a hurdle I couldn’t even bring myself to think or speak about.
“I’ve done it and I’ve also crossed the half way chemo line! Im feeling empowered and positive!” she said.

Amy announced in May that she had been diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer barely 10 months after she tied the knot with her husband Ben Jones. Due to her treatment, she is forced to sit this season of Strictly out and last week’s launch show included a touching tribute to the stricken star.
Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman called her their “Welsh dragon” and wished her a very speedy recovery in a lovely tribute ahead of one of the group dances. Tess said: “We are missing one of our Strictly dancers, the gorgeous Amy Dowden is unwell and she can’t be with us at the start of the series. She’s a Welsh Dragon and we know she will be back soon.”
“Amy, from your entire Strictly family we’re sending you all our love and we can’t wait to have you back on the dancefloor,” Claudia remarked.
