Talking candidly on the Sofa Cinema Club podcast, he lamented: “Nothing fit [except for] whatever ASOS did in 20 XL and then shoes… anyone can fit into shoes!”
He said he developed a reputation as “the fat kid” and was regularly trolled, before making a “conscious decision” to overhaul his look.
During the first coronavirus lockdown, Colson’s transformation wowed those around him as he shed an incredible ten stone.
The determined soap star even spoke to Corrie bosses to discuss how his weight loss could be incorporated into his TV role.
“In lockdown, I put myself first over everything [and] now, when it comes to normal life, I’ve kind of still got that in my head,” Colson revealed.
He also took part in ITV’s The Games last year, which helped him start swimming like a pro after finding it “humiliating” as a child due to his weight.
“As a kid I never wanted to be in a swimming pool. For me it was associated with humiliation, in school, with your top off, being fat… swimming was a big no-no,” he told The Sun.
He then progressed to being able to swim a length in under 55 seconds, adding that he’s now giving himself “the opportunity to be the best that I can be”.
