The One Show: Ricky Gervais talks about his taboo jokes
Funnyman Ricky Gervais has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to hit out at “weird, delusional, paranoid, nasty freaks” after he received some negative backlash to a recent health post.
Posting a picture of him with his beloved cat Pickle, the 62-year-old wrote an impassioned caption to his 15 million followers.
“Remember, there is still only a very small percentage of weird, delusional, paranoid, nasty freaks in the world. It’s just that they’re all on Twitter I just went for a long walk and everyone was lovely. Enjoy life and don’t let miserable people get you down. Here’s a cat,” he said.
Fans were quick to chime in with their thoughts on the post. A user called @PursueOptimism commented: You’ve been quite ‘self help book’esque recently. Are you working up to writing one or is it already in the bag?” (sic)
@TalosIV_Pike wrote: “Wise words. Fortunately those we meet in person usually remember their civility & forget their online cruelty.” (sic)

@BereanVeteran agreed with this sentiment saying: “People are more kind in person than online.”
Meanwhile, @CathyGarside commented: “That says it all & it’s always wonderful to spread kindness & cheer to others! Pickle is such a darling & thanks so much for sharing her with all of us!” (sic)
The post comes after he used the platform to alert fans to the fact that he had fallen ill ahead of his gig in Birmingham on Monday night.
Ever the trooper the show went ahead, and he later explained: “I was a bit under the weather on stage last night but I got through it. Then I didn’t sleep due to coughing, sweating, shivering. Felt even worse today. Could hardly walk.
“Also, my teeth feel too big for my mouth. What the f*****g Christ sort of symptom is that? Roll on death.”

While the majority of his followers offered nothing but well wishes a few decided to post negative comments about performing while unwell.
In a fresh health update on Wednesday morning, the comedian announced he was on the mend.
He typed: “Thanks for all your ‘get well soon’ wishes. They worked. “I feel a lot better today. That’s the last time I eat sweet and sour bat before a gig.”
The AfterLife creator is currently on his Armageddon tour across Europe with gigs scheduled in London, Berlin and Copenhagen.
Netflix has bought the rights to the show, and a special will air following the end of the tour.
