The owner of a ‘haunted’ painting had revealed how she became convinced the picture was cursed.
Zoe Elliott-Brown, from East Sussex, went on This Morning to discuss her terrifying ordeal with the painting, which features a stern-faced little girl in a red dress.
The 36-year-old bought the portrait, which features a young girl in a red dress glaring into the distance, from Hastings Advice Representation Centre (HARC) shop in St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex last month.
Ever since, strange things have been happening in Zoe’s life, while her 68-year-old mother Jayne – who has been ‘transfixed’ with the painting – has had hot flushes, turning shaky and having to wear four jumpers to keep warm.
The painting caused a stir online after charity shop manager Steve placed it in the window attached with a post-it note reading: ”She’s back!!! Sold twice and returned twice! Are you brave enough?’

Zoe revealed that she thought there was something at the back of the painting.
She also predicted that the art work had not been opened for years because of all the dust around the frame.
In fact, the painting freaked her out so much so that she refused to travel with it to the ITV studios, and it had to arrive separately.
Zoe explained how she had come to own the painting, adding: ‘A man brought in and just didn’t say anything, he just left it there with some old frames.
‘So they couldn’t speak to the original owner and nobody knows where it came from.
‘And then another lady noted how creepy it looked and then she came back and bought it.
‘Then she brought it back a couple of says later and noted that it had “ruined her life” and then I bought it.’
After buying the painting for £20, Zoe took the painting home – but some members of her family weren’t impressed by the piece of artwork.
She said their family dog Cilla, a Patterdale terrier, was ‘instantly growling’ at the painting and ‘wouldn’t go anywhere near it’.
Shaken, Zoe said that she kept it wrapped up in her friend’s garden for the past couple of days.
However Zoe’s mother Jayne told her to get the painting inside because she doesn’t want ‘her to get cold.’
Zoe says her mother gets ‘really defensive’ about the painting, and she came downstairs one morning to find Jayne ‘stroking the cheeks’ of the painting.
Even presenters Andi Peters and Rochelle Humes found the painting creepy as they discussed it with Zoe

However strange occurrences have also happened to Zoe – and she saw a myserious dark figure in front of her during a dog walk.
After being chased by an unidentified ‘black figure,’ Zoe said she took the painting back to the charity shop the next day.
However she said the man did not want it there, and so placed it at the back of the shop.
Intrigued to see if anyone had been brave enough to buy the ‘twice returned’ painting, Zoe returned to the charity shop but once there felt compelled to take it home with her again.
Zoe says that although there is a signature in the corner of the artist, she cannot find any information about the painting.
When asked about the future plans for the painting, Zoe said: ‘I just want someone who knows about it or can cleanse it.
‘Because I don’t want someone to burn it or something for a laugh and then I’m left with whatever energy it’s left at my mum’s flat.’
Speaking to Andi Peters, Zoe said: ‘I think you should open up the back, there’s something in there behind it and I don’t want to open it at my house.’
Staff at This Morning decided to open the mysterious painting to see if there was anything suspicious lurking behind the glass.
However, while there was nothing in particular behind the piece of art, the protective glass had an imprint of the painting on it.
When held up to the light, the glass looked as though it has a black silhouette of the young girl on it.
Tilly, who opened the painting, said ‘it didn’t want to be opened’ adding she had to use some force.
