Huge horny sex-mad spiders are invading peoples’ UK homes in search of love

Sex-mad spiders are taking over British homes once more โ€“ but fear not, they're not going to eat you . . . they're just looking for love.

Giant spiders are starting to appear once more as the confusing wet weather followed by a heatwave has forced them inside.

But despite the fact they look like they'll eat you in your sleep, they're actually just looking for some love.

Called the Giant House Spider โ€“ or Eratigena Artica for those who love a bit of Latin โ€“ the beasts can measure around three or four inches in diameter, and have legs that make you want to burn your house down because as long as the spider dies, everything else is fine.

But before you reach for the matches, take a step back.

The beasts are actually just hunting for a mate and tend to lay their eggs in webs either in dark wet places, or outside.

However, if you're not a lover of spiders and want to keep your house free from them, but not shut the windows because of the heatwave, there are a few things you can try.

1. Lavender, Eucalyptus and Citronella: Spiders don't like strong smells like those from lavender, and many have it growing in their garden. Simply cut some off and sprinkle it in key spider points like windowsills, near doors and dark skirting boards.

2. Mint: You can simply buy fresh mint from pretty much every supermarket for as little as 65p and sprinkle it along windowsills and in dark corners of skirting boards, where spiders are likely to lurk.

3. Lemon/Citronella: You can buy sprays made from these ingredients for about ยฃ5 to ยฃ7.

4. Removing webs: If you remove a web frequently, spiders will realise that it's a bad place to spin a web and they will eventually move on and live somewhere else.

5. Chalk: Spiders taste with their feet, and they don't like the taste of chalk. Drawing a line of chalk around your bed, along window frames and near doorways will create a no-spider zone which they will not want to cross.

6. Check your fruit bowl, because over ripe fruit will attract them.
