‘Little sign’ of UK White Christmas as nation is set to bask in 13C weekend

A White Christmas could be off the table despite previous predictions, the Met Office has declared.

The forecaster previously said there was a "risk of some wintry showers developing" on December 25 with snow expected to fall in Scotland on the big day, the Daily Star previously reported. It stated in a previous forecast from December 17 to 26: "It now looks probable that there will be at least one short-lived colder interlude next week, with a period of north or northwesterly winds that could bring some snow and ice, especially in the north."

However, it now seems warm temperatures could dash Brits' chances of seeing the white stuff on Christmas Day. The forecaster said there was "little sign of any widespread or severe cold and wintry weather" but added there could be some snow-capped hills next week with "snow and ice" still possible in the north of the country.

Bookies have also switched up their odds on the UK being graced with snow on Christmas Day. Earlier in the week it was odds-on for a city in the UK to see flakes on the big day itself, but now the likelihood stands at just 11/10.

Edinburgh is the most likely city for snowfall at 2/1, while Belfast and Newcastle are just behind at 5/2 and 3/1. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "We're more likely to see a winter washout than a White Christmas, if the latest odds are anything to go by."

It comes following reports that this weekend will bring unseasonably warm weather to parts of the UK. Temperatures could reach up to 13C today and tomorrow (Friday, December 13 – Saturday, December 14.)

This is a staggering 6C above the December daytime average, reports MailOnline. Instead of snow, weather experts now fear deluges could be set to hit the country. An amber weather warning has been issued in northwest Scotland as experts fear some eight inches (200mm) could fall.

Meanwhile parts of England have received flood warnings. Some 27 warnings and 117 alerts are in place across the country today.
