SNP councillor caught washing windows in meeting as she left camera on

This online meeting’s a pane! SNP councillor caught washing her windows after leaving camera on

Balancing work and home life can be tricky at the best of times.

But the provost of InvernessĀ surprised colleagues when she started cleaning her windows ā€“ in the middle of an important debate.

SNP councillor Glynis Campbell Sinclair joined the Inverness area committee meeting via video link from her homeĀ on Monday.

But after telling councillors they were ā€˜all going to have to make very hard decisionsā€™ due to Highland Councilā€™s ā€˜budget situationā€™, she got up and began doing her household chores.

During the two-minute clip, the provost can be seen shaking out a white cloth before she brieflyĀ disappears from sight to pick up a basin of water. With her pet dogs also in shot, she then walks to the back of the room and starts to clear items so she can beginĀ cleaning the window.

After a few seconds, Ms Campbell Sinclair runs towards the computer and appears to answer a phone call before she quickly switches her camera off.

Glynis Campbell Sinclair said she barely gets a ā€˜nanosecondā€™ to herself most days and did some ā€˜multi-taskingā€™ when the council debate was almost finished

It is understood the call was from a colleague telling her she had inadvertently left the deviceā€™s webcam on.

Defending her actions, she told BBC Scotland News most days she does not get a ā€˜nanosecondā€™ to herself as she juggles council roles with a busy family life.

She said: ā€˜I have 12 horses to look after, four of them are elderly and require stabling most nights.ā€™ But she stressed: ā€˜I had played a full part in the debate and it was almost finished when I did some multi-tasking.ā€™

Councillor Alasdair Christie, who was at the meeting, described the provostā€™s actions as ā€˜pricelessā€™.

He said: ā€˜We were all surprised that in the middle of discussing really important issues for Inverness this took place. Itā€™s not a great advert for ā€œlocal government works hardā€, is it?ā€™

The provostā€™s cleaning efforts began two hours and 37 minutes into the meeting, as councillors debated new schools funding.

The footage, available on Highland Councilā€™s website, shows a split screen and, while the provost gets on with her cleaning, other councillors continuing to debate.

Highland Council said it was ā€˜not appropriateā€™ to comment on the conduct of councillors.
